Exhibition at the Prague House in Brussels

The Design and Transformation exhibition in Brussels will exhibit the history, present, and future vision of Czech design on the occasion of the second Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU. Two parts of the exhibition will be on display at the Prague House in Brussels and the Design Museum Brussels.

In the interior and exterior of the Prague House, several projects connected by their relationship to Czech nature met. In Lasvit's presentation, designer Mária Čulenová-Hostinová iprinted the glass components of the Herbarium installation with plants and twigs from the Lusatian Mountains, in which whose arms Lasvit's collections are created. The company's production is also presented in an animated documentary created by a team of filmmakers from UMPRUM and Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU).

 Six short films about six companies, which are also presented in the Prague House, combine animation and real footage from the production or operation of the brand. The films are mainly an impression and outline of the story, vision, or history of the brand. Each of the films was produced by a different director in a creative team led by Michaela Režová and in cooperation with UMPRUM and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU).

The products of all fourteen companies, which the Design and Transformation project encompasses, inspired Vojtěch Veškrna, winner of the Czech Grand Design 2021 Photographer of the Year award, to create a series of photographs. They have become a distinctive visual element of the catalogue and the installation at the Prague House. In addition to extended image and text medallions of the represented companies, the catalogue also includes expert studies dealing with the transformation of Czech society from an economic or historical perspective (Hana Machková, and Jiří Suk) and strategies of contemporary design (Lada Hubatová-Vacková, Pavla Pauknerová, and Klára Peloušková).

In the garden of the Prague House, the successful mmcité company specializing in outdoor urban furniture is showcasing its production. The ground floor and the basement of the Prague House are interspersed with the installation Czech Landscape - an original selection of works by teachers and graduates of UMPRUM.
