Kolektiv Knedlík is an initiative that functions as a portable meeting place at UMPRUM. They deal with themes such as sustainability, collectivity, and non-growth, and the installation at NIKA Gallery is the collective's first exhibition project. In the showcase, the group has placed a curtain - reminiscent of the one we know from our grandparents' dwellings, but made of small objects, small, hand-picked talismans that the artists have spun together through their handicraft activities. Over a period of time, each of them has collected individual parts of this work - sometimes these are objects found on the street on the way to work, sometimes small items found by the sea during their travels.
An integral part of the work is the time the artists spent together while creating The Hinge. It is a defined period of time that they have dedicated to themselves, thinking about their own work and other possibilities of where the collective's work will go. The Hinge is therefore also imbued with this intangible, but no less important, value. For the artists approach sustainability not only in terms of materials, but also as a sustainability of time, allowing themselves to stop and respect their own current needs. The curtain is also an object that conceals the space behind it and you are thus invited to unravel the different layers of the installation.
