Michaela Režová (*1992)

Filmmaker and director. Focus of her work is genre of animated documentary and its forms. In 2017 she graduated at UMPRUM, with a focus on animation and film. Her diploma project – a short film Chase (2017) revives the glory days of Czechoslovak hockey along with its dark moments. In 2018 she worked in collaboration with Czech Radio on the film Gambler. Between 2020 and 2022 she worked as curator on the exhibition ANIMATION 70 (70th anniversary of animation studio at UMPRUM) and also as editor of a publication with the same name. She worked as creative director on 360° video for the permanent exhibition History of 20th century at the National Museum in Prague and on six films which were made for the exhibition Design and Transformation: Stories of Czech design 1990-2020. She stands behind the platform f-a-t.cz which works under the motto "From animators to animators" and it brings content from animation world. Currently she is also a lecturer at UMPRUM.

Animated documentary: oral history & author's approach

Theme of artistic research here is the genre of animated documentary. She is especially focused on work with the interview, which becomes the starting point of the film work.She is interested in the process of handling it, when the soundtrack is further influenced by the decisions of the director and creative solutions. Next to the theoretical work, she works on a short animated documentary called Desire to Win. Film where sculptures come to life to tell about their author's artistic excellency within a politically-defined era. The film explores the work of Zdeněk Němeček and his story through an art experiment with the sculptures themselves and shares the passion of a slowly forgotten artist. Cyclists, swimmers or hockey players – phases of movement frozen in time are the dignified depiction of one moment of the human will. How can we observe his work today?
