Pando
Pando is a project which offers a social and sustainable way of living within urban environments. The name, Pando is taken from the ancient forest of genetically identical trees in northern America. Similarly to each tree the housing units are organized around the vertical distribution of water, energy and waste branching out from this core in a modular fashion. One unit consists of seven living spaces with bathrooms, shared kitchen, dining and multifunctional space. Each habitat has a private roof terrace. The project is designed with the post-nuclear family model of singles and couples of any age in mind. Through sharing of resources, limited space for living and and a focus on waste management the project hopes to make sustainable living a shared lifestyle amongst its residents. The interlocking CLT panels are a sustainable choice of material. The construction time is drastically reduced as panels are produced and prepared with a CNC machine off site.
