Why study at UMPRUM/AAAD?
The Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague was founded in 1885 and the first school of its kind to be established in the Czech lands. Today it is a modern, dynamic, and outward-looking institution that consistently ranks among the most prestigious art universities in Western and Eastern Europe. The school is located in the historic centre of Prague and housed in an original Neo-Renaissance building which features traditional atelier-like studios.
What else sets UMPRUM/AAAD apart?
The UMPRUM faculty consists of renowned professors and leading authorities in their respective fields as well as international guest professors who are invited each semester as part of the Guest Artist programme. Additionally, the high competition for places results in a small student body, which allows an individual approach to each student across the school's respective studios and programs. Further, in-house specialised workshops in each field of study are complemented by a wide range of theoretical classes.
UMPRUM is committed to developing students' professional experience, and takes steps towards that goal in a number of ways in both the fine and applied arts. For example, students interested in showing their work have access to three gallery spaces in the centre of Prague. Meanwhile, students' research activities are supported by access to a historic library with a vast collection of publications in multiple languages. The professional exposure of UMPRUM students is also nurtured through regular collaborative projects with both Czech and international manufacturers as well as participation in prestigious international exhibitions and design fairs.
