The Austrian architect of Czech origin František Schmoranz the Younger was the first director of the Prague School of Applied Arts and, together with Jan Machytka, also the designer of its historic building. In addition, he was one of the pioneers of archaeologically informed orientalism. From 1868 to 1872 he worked in Egypt and on his return to Europe he was commissioned to design the Egyptian group for the World Exhibition in Vienna in 1873. As an exclusive expert on Islamic architecture, he then carried out a number of exhibitions and architectural designs in what was then Austria. This publication is Schmoranz's first monograph covering his entire architectural and design work. The book includes an analytical study by Professor Jindřich Vybíral, which interprets and contextualizes Schmoranz's work, and a complete oeuvre catalogue of the artist's works by Milan Němeček.
