Artist Yeh Fuyu from the Textile studio prepared woven rugs for the exhibition at gallery NIKA, which she made during her residency in Tilburg, Netherlands.
For her exhibition at NIKA Gallery, Yeh Fuyu presents the Inner Strolls project, created during her residency at the TextielMuseum in the Netherlands. In this captivating series, Fuyu employs the tufting technique, artfully combined with metal spiral coils, transforming rugs into immersive albums or sketchbooks. Inspired by the Dutch landscape and street view, she explored the flat dunes, rocks, and tree textures she encountered. Through her innovative use of yarn, she plays with shades, evoking the delicate impressions of hatching and brush strokes reminiscent of East Asian ink painting traditions (皴法), subtly reflecting her Taiwanese heritage. Fuyu challenges conventional textile practices, exploring traditional techniques to transcend machine-like aesthetics. Blurring the lines between object, installation, and performance, she invites viewers to engage with her work — encouraging them to explore her sketchbooks, flip through the layers, or embark on a journey through her inner landscape.
