President Biden presented with a Holy Water Font by Anna Martinkova
A crystal Holy Water Font by Anna Martinková, a student of the UMPRUM Glass Studio, was one of the gifts presented by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala during his visit to the White House.
Holy Water Font was created as a result of a long-term study of Baroque Gothic buildings by architect Jan Blažej Santini Aichel. In response to his work, Anna Martinková created an object on the border of fine and applied art. It loosely follows the central plan of the Chapel of St. Anne in Panenské Břežany, where one of the artifacts serves as a holy water font. It references Baroque architecture, specifically the geometric thinking of Jan Blazej Santini Aichel while capturing the beauty, dignity, and purity of the chapel.
Anna Martinková, a student studying under Rony Plesl, created a limited series of color variations, with only one piece in each color. A light blue version was presented to US President Biden.
The talented student was awarded the National Student Design Award for her work, nominated in the international Talente competition, and became part of the permanent collection of the Glassmuseum Lette in Germany.
