The Department of Applied Arts is organizing a lecture by Lukáš Likavčan A Planet of the Selfless: A Design Brief. In it, he will attempt to present an updated version of the research behind his 2019 book Introduction to Comparative Planetology.
The concept of the planet has become one of the keys to reading the situation of the human species on Earth in the 21st century. It allows us to think about the relationship between ecology and geopolitics, science and culture, or design and biology. In this lecture, Lukáš Likavčan will try to present an updated version of the research that started with the 2019 book "Introduction to Comparative Planetology".
In the talk, astronomy and media theory will meet questions
of human corporeality, which will eventually lead Lukáš Likavčan to imagine the planet as a design brief that can motivate a wide range of artistic, engineering and design practices.
Lukáš Likavčan focuses on philosophy of science and technology and environmental philosophy. Likavčan is currently a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow for Global Perspectives on Society (GPS) at NYU Shanghai. He is an author of Introduction to Comparative Planetology (2019) and a member of the More than- Planet Working Group at Waag Futurelab.
