The UMlab studio is opening for the first time in the winter semester 24/25, and students can apply for it through a studio internship.
The studio theme will be temporary interventions in Ulrich Square in Hradec Kralove.
The UMlab studio will be led by guest teachers, architects Martin Hrouda and Jiří Kotal from Studio U/U. Capacity is limited!
During the internship, the students will participate in the analysis of the current role of the area and the design of temporary interventions in the space of Ulrich Square in Hradec Králové. The internship will start with an intensive five-day workshop directly in Hradec Králové, where the selected students will meet representatives of the local government and the community operating in the area. UMlab studio aims at interdisciplinary teamwork.
Studio U/U is united by a passion for skateboarding. Their work is characterised by the involvement of the freestyle community and the sport in urban planning to create the most attractive social space for riders and the wider public. Studio U/U has a track record of professional innovative realisations, tailored to specific locations. The places they design are not only for skateboarding, but also as public spaces that encourage social interaction.
Teaching and communication with city representatives will be in Czech.

A condition for participation in the internship in the UMlab studio is the approval of the head teacher of your home studio.
The selected student(s) must submit a completed internship application to the department after completing the degree requirements and enrolling in the next year. The form is approved by the studio head and UMlab representative. The application must be submitted no later than 1 week prior to the start of the semester. Upon successful completion of the internship, students are awarded a semester's work worth 9 credits. The student completes the practicum in his/her home studio.
