At the turn of January and February, UMPRUM will open to the public again! The school-wide ARTSEMESTR winter 2025 exhibition of final and semester works will take place in both buildings of the school - in the historical building on nám. Jana Palacha Square and in the modern Technology Center of UMPRUM on Mikulandská Street. This extensive exhibition will showcase the work of students from the Departments of Architecture, Design, Applied Arts, Fine Arts, and Graphics. There will also be projects created in collaboration with and supported by UMlab, UMPRUM's creative laboratory.
Artsemestr is one of the most sought-after and highly attended exhibitions at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague. For students, this event marks the highlight of the semester, providing an opportunity to showcase how they tackled assigned current topics and applied their creative skills. All students from across the departments regularly present their work here, making ARTSEMESTR a unique insight into contemporary themes in art and design.
UMPRUM has long emphasized the relevance of topics connected to everyday life, improving the world around us, and the career prospects of its graduates. These priorities are reflected in projects that showcase both individual work and collaborations across studios, disciplines, and with external partners.
Among such projects at this year's exhibition are:
· The Studio of Graphic Design and Visual Communication in cooperation with the State Printing House of Valuables on the design of travel documents.
· The Studio of Graphic Design and New Media, which created the graphic design of a professional magazine for the National Museum.
· An extensive interdisciplinary project dedicated to the public space of Hradec Králové, in which the Studios of Product Design, Furniture and Interior Design, and Fine Arts participated under the umbrella of UMlab.
· Cooperation between the Studio of Architecture III and the Studio of Ceramics and Porcelain on the development of ceramic elements for architecture.
· The Studio of Fashion and Footwear Design, which linked its assignment with the Czech manufacturer of damask fabrics Veba.
· A collection of clothing and gloves inspired by the Lobkowicz collections, created by the Studios of Textiles and Fashion Design.
ARTSEMESTR offers a number of inspiring projects every year. It is a testament to the relevance of teaching at UMPRUM and a glimpse into the work of the next generation of artists and designers. The exhibition reflects the school's long-term vision: to respond meaningfully to the needs of sustainable living and to connect creativity with practical needs of society so that graduates can navigate the contemporary world and respond to the complex issues of life around us with an eye for detail and the whole.
The exhibition will be open from January 30th to February 4th, 2025, daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm in both school buildings.
