The Studio II of Architectire II of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague will host a lecture by architect Maarten Gielen from the Belgian studio RotorDC. He will speak at UMPRUM on Reasons for getting out of bed.
Rotor Deconstruction is a company that trades in salvaged building materials in Brussels. Materials are demounted from to be demolished buildings and prepared for reuse in new projects. RotorDC was conceived as a private but ‘activist’ company, with the explicit idea to influence policy and be an actor of change in the Brussels’ material economy. The firm currently employs close to 30 people. During his lecture Maarten Gielen, who cofounded this cooperative, attempts a critical assessment of the model and cautiously tries to formulate a few lessons learned.
