Fashion and Footwear Design
The main focus of the atelier is on a broader than usual, therefore "open" concept of clothing design, the core of which is a clothed, functionally and visually equipped human individual or a certain group. The bodily performative and media dimension of the contemporary world means new demands for classical clothing design, which overlap, for example, with needs of advertising, but also kinds of media-followed "scenic garments". To some extent, this concept of clothing design wants to explore the contemporary living terrain of human individual and social life, its diverse social, spiritual and cultural aspects, which are reflected in the clothing, accessories and overall styling of the outward appearance of individuals or groups.
The teaching of fashion design in this studio is built on creativity with an emphasis on the individual journey and development of the designer's own personality on the artisanal side of the field called couture – the ultimate form of sewn creation built on classical tailoring and other seeking attitudes and forms of cuts and patterns. The study and discovery of new technologies and their application to specific realizations is not neglected. Students are seen as up-and-coming creative individuals with the ability to conceive, defend and execute their projects and work on them in a simultaneously person-centered and collective process. Throughout their studies, based on announced and collectively discussed thematic assignments, they demonstrate through their own design proposal, its defense and material execution their professional readiness for employment in the field of "fashion", both in the relevant sectors of the fashion industry and in traditional individual or otherwise specialized customer service.
The DOO considers inter-studio teamwork to be one of the school's greatest strengths, most often with photography students in the case of fashion design, but is open to all other students across disciplines. Contacts with international schools in the form of internships, exhibitions and participation in competitions will of course continue.
