RED EXPERIENCE, Via Tortona, 32, Milano, Italy
Tomáš Kučera, a student of the UMPRUM Studio of Glass, is exhibiting his glass tables at Milano Design Week as part of the Red Experience exhibition. He won this opportunity as one of the two winners of the Ploom Design Competition.
The challenge of the Ploom Design Competition Curated by Vogue was to design an artwork that fell into the category of fashion and jewellery or product design and featured the colour red. The expert jury selected six finalists out of a hundred entries, from which two winners emerged - Tereza Otáhalíková in the fashion and jewellery category and Tomáš Kučera in the product design category. They received not only a financial prize but also the opportunity to present their work in Milan.
Tomáš Kučera's red-blown glass side tables are inspired by Italian radical design and the emotions evoked by the colour red. The contrast between the matt and glossy texture is an important element of the design. Thanks to the organic, naturally sculpted shape, the object placed on the pedestal becomes part of it. The tables are hand-blown without the use of a mold.
This is not the first time Tomáš has exhibited in Milan. Last year he exhibited at the Milan Festival with Italian gallerist Rossana Orlandi.
