Fiera di Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Itálie
The Studio of Illustration and Graphics at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) will once again showcase its work at the prestigious Bologna Children's Book Fair. Students have been given several exhibition spaces and walls, for which they have created a new visual concept that aligns with the festival’s focus. Additionally, they are the authors of a special publication titled BOOKPEOPLE.
For the third consecutive year, the Studio of Illustration and Graphics at UMPRUM is presenting its work as part of the Czech Republic's National Stand at the Bologna Book Fair. This project is a collaboration with the Moravian Library and the Czech Literary Center (CzechLit), which once again invited the studio to participate in designing part of the exhibition stand. This year, the design was created by student Johanka Porazilová.
Alongside other publishers, the studio is also showcasing its own publications. For the first time, the public will be introduced to Thursday Child, a comprehensive book featuring illustrations by all students. The book originates from a semester-long project in which Czech writers and other notable figures regularly visited the studio to read excerpts from their works, while students created their portraits. The book also serves as a chronicle of life in the studio.
Similarly, students collaboratively produced the extensive Codex Aigas, which documents printed materials created in the studio between 2003 and 2018, and Eintopf, developed in cooperation with the Studio of Typeface Creation and Typography. Other notable publications include works by students and alumni, such as The Neverending Story by Kotone Utsunomiya, The Book of Perception by Lucie Lučanská, The Khazar Dictionary by Darian Hardy, and more.
A particularly remarkable project is BOOKPEOPLE, a collection of 12 leporellos. Each student focused on a different profession involved in book production, guiding readers through the creative process in a playful way while highlighting all the people who contribute to bringing a book to life.
