Olgoj Chorchoj - Logic & Emotions
Studio Olgoj Chorchoj, represented by Michal Froněk and Jan Němeček, has been progressing in the field of architecture and design since the 1990s, and its work projects the balance between the utilitarian and aestheticist. These transformative designers demonstrate that emotion must be expressed in every project, while the surrounding space must also evoke rationality. The design of objects d'art and architecture must provide pleasure, yet every detail must have the strongest possible justification. During the lecture, the founders of the studio will present recent projects selected for this occasion and illuminate the process of their creation. Designers Michal Froněk and Jan Němeček have been professors at UMPRUM, the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Czech Republic since 1999.

Simona Rybáková - UNIQUE CLIENT: INCLUSIVE DESIGN
Costume designer Simona Rybáková has been working on domestic and international theatre stages, film, and specialized projects for almost four decades. Her strong interest in overlapping themes brought her to the UMPRUM Fashion and Footwear Design studio in Prague during the summer semester of 2020/2021, where she and her students focused on clients with "non-conforming" figures who are not primarily in the "viewfinder" of clothing production. With her insights into specific issues of inclusive design, they tackled clothing for people who, for health reasons, as a result of injuries, congenital anomalies, lifestyles, or another identity cannot use conventional ready-to-wear garments. Her presentation will be about this particular project and many other topics related to her work.

Michaela Režová -  Animation and Transformation
Czech animation has a deep tradition, but it’s also developing and intermingling with applied art. This lecture in combination with screening will present not only six short films created for the Design&Transformation exhibition, but it will also introduce their authors, who are part of the young generation of Czech animated film. It’s a unique opportunity to look into the background of the films, that combine animation and documentary, but also you can see several great animated shorts from the last few years.

Michaela Režová (*1992) is a Czech filmmaker and art director. Currently she is a PhD student at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. In 2021 she prepared film exhibition dedicated to 70 years of animation studio at AAAD in Prague which is the oldest one in Czech Republic. In her work Michaela is focused on genre of animated documentary and its forms. She stands behind the platform f-a-t.cz which works under the motto "From animators to animators" and it brings content from animation world, mainly podcasts with different kind of interesting people.

Lada Hubatová Vacková - Craft revival in the Czech contemporary design
A number of contemporary artists in the field of design are turning away from accelerated industrial production in series and focusing on an updated revival of traditional craft practices – both in the Czech Republic and internationally. The revived craft of the 21st century (so-called neo-craft, post-craft) is often the result of slow handicraft techniques, but at the same time it is often intertwined with current methods in the field of digital media, new composite materials, relates to issues of eco-farming, socio-economic collaboration, etc. My presentation will focus on some particular examples of the contemporary craft methods. 

Lada Hubatová-Vacková (*1969) is an art historian and curator of exhibitions focused on art and design of the 19th - 21st centuries, she teaches at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She is the author or co-author of numerous publications, texts and exhibition projects

Radek Sidun & Petra Dočekalová -  LETTERING & CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP „NEW SCRIPT STYLES“ 
This workshop is let by Petra Dočekalová, Type Designer at Briefcase Type Foundry
A super-intensive workshop focus on exploring new handwritten Latin script styles that follow the Czechoslovak style of calligraphy and lettering. You’ll try various Czech markers, graffiti tools, and different techniques and styles, including freestyle. Ultimately you’ll learn four master script styles and finish the session with a new original handwriting style.
1 day workshop – 10–13h, lunch break, 14–17h, 6 hours in total.

Petra Dočekalová & Radek Sidun – Typographic Books
Petra and Radek got involved in various book projects in their Briefcase Type Foundry studio in Prague. Their collaborative process involved various topics and subjects on Czech typography. From the historical story, such as the book on typeface designer Jaroslav Benda, across the book TYPO9010 tracing all Czech fonts produced between 1990 to 2010 and also to the recent Manual of Diacritics dealing with diacritics of Latin typefaces.  

Briefcase offers original Czech productions by authors who may not wish to set up their own type foundry to publish their fonts. It profiles itself as an independent type foundry, which can offer a wide range of unique fonts, thanks to its extensive author portfolio. Briefcase digitises original font designs, offers young designers original fonts, and helps publish older, previously unreleased fonts created by typographers and graphic designers. The project is a logical extension of the traditional Suitcase Type Foundry, which offers technical excellence of its fonts as its core value.

Petra Dočekalová (1991) finished her PhD studies on Fostering Increased Appreciation for Handwriting, Penmanship, and a Personal Handwriting Style at the Type Design and Typography studio at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague in 2020. Since 2013 she has been a member of the Briefcase Type Foundry. She is focused on editorial work such as the TYPO9010 book, which won several global awards, or the Jaroslav Benda 1882–1970, for it’s English Edition she hit a successful Kickstarter campaing in 2020. She is also a letterer, type designer, sign painter, and lettering artist, working on new digital scripts. Petra received the TDC Award of excellence for her diploma project dealing with Czechoslovak calligraphy and new hand lettering forms.

Radek Sidun (1980) devotes himself primarily to fonts and typography. His graduation thesis at the UMPRUM Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design dealt with the issue of diacritics in world languages. As a result, he is a sought-after consultant to font designers and type foundries world over. He’s served as a pedagogue at the Type Design and Typography studio of the UMPRUM Academy in Prague. Together with Tomáš Brousil he founded Briefcase Type Foundry in 2012. He has received several awards for his various projects, such as a Gold Medal at the European Design Awards 2013, lately the Certificate of Typographic Excellence 2014 by Type Directors Club for BC News which he co-designed and edited. He become the Graphic designer of the year 2015 at the Czech Grand Design Awards. He is a member of the editorial team of the award-winning book TYPO9010 (2015), co-author of the book Jaroslav Benda 1882-1970: Typographic Design and Typeface (2019) and author of the publication Diacritical Manual: Case studies of newly designed accents for contemporary typefaces (2021).
