Chris Schanck - lecture
9. 5. 2024 from 10 am
Technological Centre UMPRUM, Mikulandská 134/5, Prague 1, 3rd floor, auditorium
At the invitation of K.O.V., we welcome one of the most renowned contemporary designers, Chris Schanck. In his lecture he will present his work to date. Chris Schanck first pursued studies in fine art at the School of Visual Arts in New York before continuing his studies in design at Cranbrook in Detroit. He has long been interested in materials and processes that are not traditionally associated with luxury, mass production, or standards of perfection. Schanck utilizes various elements with little or no value - cheap plywood, scavenged sticks - and transforms these elements with resin or aluminum foil into works of art. He is represented by the Johnson Trading Gallery in New York and Almine Rech in Paris. Schanck has produced commissioned works for Tom Ford, Christian Dior, and Peter Marino.
This lecture is supported by the National Restoration Plan program of the Ministry of Culture, project reg. no. 0316000010.
